BRUSH TRANSFORMERS EXHIBIT FLAMEPROOF TRANSFORMERS AT CHINA COAL EXPO, NOV 2008
9 January 2009
As a world class business and a global leading brand in the Transformer industry, Brush Transformers entered the Chinese market as early as 1973. Since then, China has been an important market place for Brush Transformers.
Through presenting ourselves in the "China Coal Expo 2008 (held between the 4th and 7th November 2008)", we have clearly delivered the message to our existing and potential customers, suppliers and Chinese government that Brush Transformers is strongly interested in this market and keen to work together with them in contributing in China’s further economic development by providing our bespoke products and customer-focused services.
Brush Transformers Limited manufacture a comprehensive range of dry type, Class 220 insulated, flameproof mining transformers for use in mining and explosive atmospheres from 50kVA to 3500kVA, in accordance with British and European Standards governing Flameproof Enclosures of Electrical Apparatus EN 50014 and EN 50018.
All the mining transformers produced by Brush, have been tested and certified by a notified body, as being flameproof and suitable for underground coal mining and tunneling in atmospheres containing methane gas - known as ‘Fire Damp Group I’.
In addition a number of enclosures are suitable for Group IIB atmospheres in accordance with British and European Standards EN 50014 and EN 50018. All transformers are designed to conform to I.E.C. 60076 operating at high temperature with air as the sole cooling medium, and Class 220 insulation as standard.
Brush Transformers Limited quality assurance and control systems comply in all respects to ISO9001 and extend throughout the company.
All the transformers described in this publication comply with B.S. 5067/1985.
The transformers are designed for a primary voltage of up to 12 kV, and a secondary voltage of up to 7.2 kV. These are usually 3 phase 50 or 60 Hz Delta Star connected to vector group Dy11.
Normally the flameproof transformers are supplied with integral flameproof SF6 (Sulphur Hexafluoride) switchgear on the primary and protection chamber on the secondary to form a complete flameproof and robust mobile substation. The complete unit can be fitted with either rollers and axles or skid under base. The secondary protection chamber can be supplied with any combination of overload, earth fault and short circuit protection, with optional overload, phase-sensitive short circuit protection, moulded-case circuit breakers, single or multiple outlets of dual voltages, either single or simultaneous, and other features to suit customer’s requirements.

Although originally designed for use in the underground coal mining industry, these flameproof and robust transformers are recommended for use in hazardous atmospheric applications such as carboniferous mining, the oil and gas industry and the chemical industry. Because of their very robust construction they are suitable for use in non-carboniferous and open-cast mining, quarrying, tunneling and heavy construction industry - where their robust construction is valued more than their flameproof characteristics.
