Flameproof

Brush Transformers Limited produce a comprehensive range of certified flameproof transformers, switchgear and low voltage protection chambers. The flameproof range have been in production for over forty years and are designed in accordance with British and European Standards governing Flameproof Enclosures of Electrical Apparatus.

The switchgear range are of a modular design and consist of a totally enclosed flameproof housing, incorporating a sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) gas filled circuit breaker, suitable for use on service voltages up to 12kV, 400 amps, with a fault breaking capacity of 13kA.

These circuit breakers are available as individual free-standing units to form either single or multi-panel switchboards, with single or double isolation chambers, or are suitable for transformer mounting to form a complete substation, depending on the desired application.

The Brush range of dry type flameproof transformers are available with ratings up to 3500kVA, 12kV, and use class '220' insulation as standard, which possess superior thermal stability, are highly resistant to moisture and are impervious to deterioration by ageing.

The range of flameproof enclosures used have been type tested and certified by a notified body and are suitable for use in Group I atmospheres containing methane (firedamp), such as encountered in the mining industries. In addition a number of enclosures are suitable for use in Group IIA and IIB atmospheres containing Propane and Ethylene, such as encountered in the surface industries (e.g. petrochemicals).

Although originally designed for use in the underground coal mining industry, these flameproof and robust transformers are recommended for use in hazardous atmospheres such as carboniferous mining, the oil and gas industry and the chemical industry. Because of their very robust construction they are suitable for use in non-carboniferous and open cast mining, quarrying, tunnelling and heavy industry – where their robust construction is valued more than their flameproof characteristics.
